Background:
The declaration of the ‘year of giving’ in an imaginary kingdom; inspired by the declaration of 2017 as the ‘year of giving’ in the United Arab Emirates.
And in a distance, a child, sat woebegone.
Many a people passed him, yet no one consoled.
Though it was visible that the beauty of his attire was all gone.
Away yet everyone strolled.
But a man once came and saw the delicate soul,
so troublesome, tattered and totaled.
With empathy his heart erupted, he handed him his packed casserole.
Feeling his help insufficient, he fumbled.
Then with determination like of the greatest Mongol,
To get him better provisions away he bustled.
with a rush of happiness, the childs heart melted.
how filled of hope and love was he.
an evil and greedy image of man he had sculpted,
for a man like this, never did he think he would see.
Far away, the nobility of a kingdom, heard of this account,
in the royal gathering they narrated this serene prose.
The king was impressed and said that compassion was its fount,
up came the king with an idea that no one could oppose.
The very thought of the idea made him shed a tear,
at once he passed the verdict.
calling the time the giving year,
where no one remained in a state of derelict,
as in the path of compassion, everyone was sincere.
Did the poem give you a vivid imagery of the scene? Were the feelings profound and moved you? What do you think about this poem- do you have any suggestions for improvement?
