Good day readers,
Are you fasting today? Or are you simply starving yourself?
Fasting, in Arabic- Siyam. (‘To abstain from…’)
People avoid eating and drinking and claim to be fasting, while they go around doing all other kinds of wrongs.
A fasting person will shift towards a lazier lifestyle and avoid doing work in school or anything of the sort in claims of ‘fasting’. He/she also might get easily annoyed at people and justify it by claiming to be ‘fasting’.
However, that defies the very purpose of fasting. You need to use the pros of fasting in making yourself a better, calmer, understanding, empathetic and good human being, using it as an excuse to get angry easily or shift to a lazier lifestyle completely defies the whole point of it.
If you are fasting, you must abstain from multiple things and enjoin goodness to your maximum potential. Fasting is not about starving yourself for hours. It’s an opportunity to connect to your Lord, become a better person, and improve in multiple spheres.
Note: If you have problems with using unwanted language, now’s your chance to control and curb down on it- completely. (Muslims and non-Muslims alike). Find yourselves accountability partner(s) and begin!
Apart from that, don’t let fasting pull you back from your daily activities. If you fast properly and take your Suhoor and Iftar in adequate amounts, although you will experience some emptiness, as days pass by they won’t matter anymore and you’ll be able to perform daily activities just fine.
In fact, fasting has proved to help increase focus, concentration, metabolism, detox and various other benefits when done correctly.
Balance your life during Ramadan, divide sections of your day in proportionate and just amounts for sleep, worship, Quran, academics, and other activities that you might be associated to.
This Ramadan, let us all help each other in making the above mentioned things possible, let’s truly fast- and not just starve ourselves!
GREAT
